—the center is the position of power while those who are not in power are pushed to the "margin" or the "periphery"
—there can be questions regarding the power of being in the margin.
The thinker Foucault, for instance, says that being on the outside of traditional culture can offer certain freedoms that cannot be allowed within the traditional or "center" culture.
There is also the idea of "de-centering" the traditional culture - this is for the marginalized other to claim the position of power at the center of discourse. .
