- The process of intermixing and cultural change that produced a Creole society.

While the creolization processes might be argued to be going on throughout the world, the term has usually been applied to "new world" societies (particularly the Caribbean and South America) and more loosely to those post-colonial societies whose present ethnically or racially mixed populations are a product of European colonization.
